Before and during

Hello y’all! Great start to the week! Can you BELIEVE Christmas Eve is in 10 days? Where is time going this year-it’s been a very fast year!

Not too much to talk about today, but wanted to share some pictures- some “before” and “during…” side-by-sides that really blew me away today.  I know I see a difference in the mirror but I also always see something different when I look at pictures of myself. Does anyone else do that? Think, that’s not what I see when I look in the mirror, who Is that woman?  I still think that but at least I see I am making progress.

I went to a really fancy Holiday party over the weekend.  Got my hair done in a great bottom cross-braid where it was loose and curled on the side. I felt so pretty. It’s a wonderful thing when a girl gets to be gussied and glamorous out on the town for a night once in awhile. Especially one that works from home sporting yoga pants or workout gear all day and simply (most of the time) brushes her hair. Otherwise it’s a pony tail or messy bun. And I didn’t even have to wear spanxs, the dress flattered enough so I didn’t have to fight with that contraption riding up all night lol. Not a single picture turned out with decent lighting but here’s these I thought I would share

Fun fun with show and tell.

Remember the ankle I rolled last weekend so bad? I did a very light run this morning and all seemed fine. Until I got off and the day progressed. My ankle is swollen, painful to the touch, and making me limp by this hour. I really am hoping to avoid x-rays.  More than anything I want to get back to my training. It’s clear I have to find other routines until this heals. Huge set-back from my goal of running a full 5k without walking by March 4th.  We’ll see how long this keeps running halted. Got to stay positive.

Been back on track with eating. Tonight I made this great healthy chicken and bean chile that was so good my husband ate all of what was supposed to be my lunch tomorrow :(. Oh well, I’ll throw one together again tomorrow. I’ll post it my recipes page soon.

So I may have taken 3 steps back in following the program but I know I’ve at minimum taken 1.5 steps forward this week to reclaim. Would be better if the ankle wasn’t bad. So strength  training and modified Insanity here I come.

Well that’s it for me tonight. Hope you are all doing well!

Coffee Break

Ok, so anyone who knows me knows I am a coffee junkie. I used to be a pot a day girl-yes I know, boo. But over the last 2 years I had gotten myself down to two, satisfying cups a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon after I ate lunch.

Soooooo, post surgery and I hate the stuff. I’ve really tried-just one little cup?-but I just hate the taste now. Believe it or not, this was pretty depressing for me. There is just something about a hot mug of coffee first thing in the morning and I actually felt like something was just missing replacing it with a protein shake.

So yesterday I discovered black tea pods for the Kuereg on clearance at the grocery store. I thought, hey what the hell I’ll try it. COLOR ME ONE HAPPY GIRL!! I am thrilled. I love them and I can once again warm my soul with a hot beverage in the mornings!!!

Now I know I know, diuretic and all of that. But this is something that is more than routine for me, it’s soothing for me mentally for whatever reason and I’m really happy I don’t have to give that up too.  Now wine, on the other hand… I’ve given that up under doctor orders, but dont think I don’t miss the hell out of my nightly glass!

I made a chicken dish in my mini-crockpot last night that was to die for.  It felt so good to be cooking again too. I’m struggling with what to eat everyday, so I will be planning my weekly menu come Sunday’s from now on, inspired by Amanda Turner.

On a fitness update- I’ve managed to get 2 days on the treadmill this week, not counting this Sunday coming when I plan to hit the outdoors for my workout. Next week I’m shooting for 4 days and back to C25k training. I have two 5Ks in November I’m hoping to run part of. I’ve joined Amanda’s October Fitness Frenzy to get motivated again.  Really enjoying the community!

Gotta get control of my schedule and food or I’m going to get very down, very soon.

On the weight loss I’m at 5 weeks post-op (-24 lbs). Not mad at that number at all. I’ve stalled out these past few days, we’ll see. I would be thrilled to see the 200 marker by Nov 1!

Now, back to work! Xoxo

Mind Food

I have been thinking and dreaming about food. I’m not hungry, but I want FOOD.  Cooking for the family today has been a struggle for my mind. I started reading articles about bariatric eating galore after I cooked dinner. I’ve read these all before but they seem to be soothing my mind hunger tonight.

Man, I didn’t realize my relationship with food was THIS bad. Clearly this is going to be an even bigger up-hill battle for me as I re-learn how to eat after this surgery. I am going to have to be even more aware of my addiction and make good decisions. I’ll be hunting really good books on the subject and cookbooks specific to bariatric and WLS eating. I did find a great website with recipes using protein powders, it’s called Cheatclean. It’s the Quest brand recipe site, but some of those recipes look awesome.

I’m only down 3 lbs from the day before surgery. I have to say I’m a bit surprised at that number considering I’ve been on liquids for a full week now. I don’t know, I just thought the number would be a little higher. One of my VSG friends I met that had surgery the same day as me is down 12 and is already driving!  My other friend (same day sleever) is like me, scale hasn’t moved much either.

I’ve been following all the rules to the letter since day one and plan to continue that…hopefully this isn’t the status quo for me as I move into solid  foods stage in a few weeks. To be fair, I’m down 7 lbs total from the start of the 2-week diet date.

I’d love to hear what some fellow sleevers first few weeks losses were post-op… And did you struggle with head-hunger immediately after surgery too?
