Hunger Pains

I’m not sure what happened with my body, but it did not get the memo about not being very hungry and having to ‘make sure’ to eat. It may have to do with the meds I take-one of them has been proven to increase appetite-but man-o-man I get like raging hungry all of the time. Seriously if I don’t eat every 3-4 hours my stomach is literally eating itself! I’m sad about that. I have to admit, it’s been cause to put me in situations where I make a bad choice in food items because the alternative is going several more hours without. Tonight, thank heavens there was a GNC nearby and I ran in and bought one of their cold protein shakes from the cooler.  Crisis averted whew!  But as I sipped (gulped like a fish) my shake on the sidewalk and looked around… Taco Bell, Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Bojangles…

I counted my lucky stars for the GNC.

But it got me thinking. I really need to keep my car or purse stocked with go to items for these occasions which are occurring often because of my busy schedule. I hate protein bars, have not found one yet I don’t need to spit out upon first bite.  Wait, I take that back-none that I’ve purchased. I made a batch of oatmeal protein bars a bit ago and they were pretty good. Just have to cut that recipe in half because it made SO many. And putting that on the grocery list…

Any other sleevers suffer with raging hunger like I do, post-op? Any advice or good on the go food ideas?

      1. Boredom is definitely a trigger for me, you’re right. But really I haven’t been too bored lately, I’ve actually been super busy. I am hoping increasing my fluid intake (personal challenge) will help too.

  1. Have you tried the Nature’s Valley ones? I like the Salt & Caramel Nut. They sell them in the grocery store and have 10g protein for 190 calories. I like my protein bars to have more than that but these I love for traveling or jus keeping something in my purse.

  2. Haha…I feel that way all the time (but I’m not sleeved yet). I call it Hangry 🙂 I wanted to give you props for making a good choice instead of all the crap you could have grabbed! Have you tried the Fiber One protein bars? I like them…the peanut butter is my favorite!

  3. Ok, you’re going to think I’m crazy, but I saw that Snickers makes a 20g protein bar. I know, I know, SNICKERS. But hey, at least you know they’ll be tasty. Also, I’m only 2 weeks out and feeling hunger pangs. I know it’s not acid reflux. But I do have to say it’s not the same kind of pang I had before surgery, that gnawing, esophagus-pulling pang. Not yet anyway. 😉

    1. Hmmm I wonder how many sugars and carbs are in one of those-I’ll definitely check it out though! Thanks! It wasn’t AS bad right after surgery but it’s getting worse as I get further out. Maybe I need to reduce my carbs even more too, they can tend to contribute to hunger I think too…

      1. Looks like a ton of carbs, 40g. Yikes! But doable if it’s just an emergency snack and/or you eat low carb the rest of the day. I did read somewhere that carbs can be problematic in creating hunger for some people. I think my body will be the same way. I am/was a carb fiend.
